Some of the major causes of famine in Ukraine in 1929 and 1935 are as follows:
- The major cause of it was forced collectivization during the period of Soviet Union where small farms of the Ukrainian were replaced by state-run collectives, causing less supply of food.
- A severe decrease of the agricultural workers and their workforces which had a significant impact on the production of required food grains.
- Due to some of it's causes the most cracking cause was whenever there was a rapid decrease of agricultural works there was always a rapid increase in the industrial sector instead of the agriculture which resulted much of the land investments resulting to less food manufactures.
