At a lacrosse tournament, students are charged $7 per ticket and adults are charged $10 per ticket. If 450 people attended the tournament, and a total of $3,600 was collected in ticket fees, how many students attended the tournament?

Each student have to pay 7$
So 7$*300=2100$
We have 150 people left(adults)
Because the total number of people is 450. So 450-300=150adults left
150*10=1500$
Total:1500$+2100$=3600$

7x+10y = 3600

x+y= 450


2) Move x to the other side of the equation

y = 450 - x

3) Substitute it into the first equation


7x + 10(450-x) = 3600

4) Solve

7x + 4500 - 10x = 3600

-3x = -900

x = 300
