Identify bias why did many southerners dislike the people they termed "scalawags" and "carpetbaggers"?

Scalawags were seen as traitors. They were Southerners who had sided with the Union. They were profiting off the misery of their fellow neighbors. Carpetbaggers were seen as underhanded Northerners trying to make a quick buck. They were abusing an already hurt people.
