Nationalism created a focus on creating countries which were based on the needs of nationalities or ethnicity.

Starting in 1848, a focus on nations of people coming together to share rights as common people created movements toward revolution. Places like France, Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy would all begin nationalist movements to overthrow, unify, or divide countries. Similar national groups wanted to build nation-states or countries where the people were all the same culturally.
