Recent studies of  DNA on both monocots and dicots indicates that the monocot and dicot distinction does not completely reflect the evolutionary relationship of both plant groups. Recent data suggests that the hypothesis of monocots form from a clade but reveals the species known as dicots are polyphyletic. This means that monocot could arise form a group of organisms that believed to evolved from a common ancestor. However, dicots are considered to arise from a loosely unrelated organisms descended from one or more ancestors.
