It is when plates move in closer together as plate material is subducted and is lighter and more gaseous that magma in the mantle so it rises to the surface and pushes up between the gap in the plates to form the Mid Atlantic Ridge

According to my research on Wikipedia, the plates moved apart and/or slid past each other. I hope this helps. Have a great supercalifragilicsticexpialidocioius day!
