Since x/2 and x/2 have a common denominator, we can combine the terms.

x/2+x/2=8/12
2x/2=8/12
divide both sides by 2, then multiply both sides by 2
x=8/12=2/3

2*(2x/2)=8/12*2
2x=8/6
6*2x=8/6*6
12x=8
x=8/12
x=0.66667
