If enslaved african americans resisted, why don't you think they often broke away from slavery answers

It's because the slave owners often imposed a very cruel punishment for the slaves who even tried to make small effort to defy the owners.
This type of treatment was aimed to crush the slaves' spirit from the beginning and eliminate even the slightest ray of hope of them in escaping the plantations where they're held.
