When Marsha went shopping, she decided to buy some nuts to take home. She bought 1 3/4 lbs. of cashews, 5/8 lbs. of almonds, and 2 1/2 lbs. of peanuts. How many pounds of nuts did she buy?

x-------------> lbs. of cashews-------> 1 3/4 lbs------> (4+3)/4-----> 7/4 lbs
y-------------> lbs. of almonds-------> 5/8 lbs
z-------------> lbs. of peanuts-------> 2 1/2 lbs--------> (2*2+1)/2-----> 5/2 lbs
T-------------> total pounds of nuts

we know that
T=x+y+z
T=[(7/4)+(5/8)+(5/2)]--------> (1/8)*[14+5+20]----->
(1/8)*[39]=39/8 lbs

T=39/8=4.875 lbs----------> 4 7/8 lbs

the answer is 4 7/8 lbs
