The discount is 2.40 dollars.

Discount:
20% is .2 as a decimal, so you multiply the value of 12 by .2
12(.2)=2.4
The discount is $2.40

Sale Price:
subtract 2.4 from the price of the original price
12-2.4=9.6
The sale price is $9.60
