multiply by the number outside the parenthesis.
-11k - 9(9+k) = -11(1+5k)
-11k - 81 - 9k = -11 - 55k
combine like terms
-11k - 9k + 55k = 81 - 11
35k = 70
k = 70/35
k = 2
