We can use a proportion box to help us solve this problem. We know that the machine adds 110 tons per 45 minutes. We want to know how many tons can be added per minute. To set up the proportion, we must ensure the units are aligned (as shown in the attached image). Then, we cross multiply and divide. So, the machine can add 2.44 tons of sand per minute.
