Retype these sentences, making them smoother by changing they parts that área italicized.

1. Mary gave us an advance warning that she was going to set a new récord for reading the most books.

2. With the exception of Tom, together with two others, we all enjoyed the concern.

1. Mary gave us *a warning in advance* that she was going to set a *record* for reading the most books.
(advance warning could also be changed to "advanced warning", and 'new record' is redundant because anything that is a record is already going to be new. )

2. *Everyone except Tom and two others* enjoyed the concern.
(this helps shorten the sentence and take the focus off Tom and the two others, making it clearer that the majority enjoyed the concern)

3. I am not going to play softball *until* next Wednesday.
(the up isn't necessary, it adds words and takes away some of the clarity)
