The answer is Crow's Foot notation.  A number of data showing techniques that are being used today. One of the most general is the entity relationship diagram (ERD). This diagram represents relationships as lines between the boxes and entities as boxes. Various shapes at the ends of these lines show the cardinality of the relationship.
