Jenny has to mow two lawns. Lawn 1 is 9 6/7 by 2 8/10.

Lawn 2 is 5 1/4 by 11.

Sammy has to mow 1 lawn.

Sammy’s lawn is 10 2/3 by 4 2/7.

Sammy thinks he has more area to mow than Jenny. Is this true? Show all your steps clearly and a sentence to your answer.

Jenny has to mow (69/7 * 14/5) + (21/4 * 11)
Sammy has to mow (32/3 * 30/7)

Calculate the total areas that they have to mow and compare
Jenny:
(69/7 * 14/5) + (21/4 * 11)
138/5 + 231/4
85 7/20

Sammy:
(32/3 * 30/7)
45 5/7

Jenny has to do almost twice as much mowing than Sammy. Which means Sammy definitely doesn't have more area to mow than Jenny.

Hope this helps
