The Teller amendment was about helping Cubans gain independence. It stipulated that the United States would not be able to annex Cuba and make it one of the States but rather it would only help people gain independence and then the troops would completely go back and leave the governing to Cuban people.

The Platt amendment was similar to this but there were changes that Cubans had to accept and the Cuban parliament barely managed to pass this. Although it was also about independence, it presented a clear distinction between the powers of Cuba and the United States showing that the US would be the dominant ones there.

The Platt amendment was heavily disliked by Cubans. At first, the amendment did not get passed in the Cuban parliament but they managed to barely pass it at a later date. The Amendment was completely abolished during the time of Castro because he claimed that it infringed upon many sections of the Vienna congress and was bad for Cubans.
