1. Find the least common denominator (12).
3/4·3/3=9/12
1/3·4/4=4/12

2. Now you can subtract.
9/12-4/12=5/12.

So your answer is 5/12.

You need to find the common denominator first. 3 * 4 = 12
3/4 = 9/12 and 1/3 = 4/12
9/12 - 4/12 = 5/12
