Your first answer is wrong. 2/3 is not equivalent to 2/6, 2/3 is equivalent to 4/6 because if you multiply 2*2 and 3*2 you would get 4 and 6. so in order to get the equivalent fraction you must multiply or divide the top and the bottom of the fraction with the same number.
