The words "chill" and "frozen" have connotations of lifelessness and they contribute to express ideas of death, loneliness or to convey a tone of helplessness.

These words along with images of snow, winter or cold are also used by several authors with the same connotations of lifelessness because the cold of winter and snow is usually related to death and loneliness while sun, heat and spring - with the flowers and colourful landscapes - are related to life, blooming and merrier times.
