As the American government was un-happy by the actions taken by the British empire by not allowing them to trade with France, this served as a motivation to declare war on England and attack by land Canada, which was back then a British colony, they didn´t take into consideration that the Canadians would fight back, they thought that it was going to be just matter of marching with the troops to the north, so the army they raised was not capable and had little to no battle training, they ended up loosing the ground fight because of that.
