Volume of a rectangular prism is found by multiplying the length by the width by the height. The volume of our given prism would be
V = (4 1/2)(4 1/2)(6)
Converting the fractions to mixed numbers we have
V = (9/2)(9/2)(6/1) = 486/4 = 121.5

The storage container has a volume of 143, so the difference is 143 - 121.5 = 21.5 cubic mm.
