A. Gettysburg

Union armies had gained two important victories at about the same time. George meade had defeated Confederate forces led by General Robert E. Lee. ... It was the last Confederate invasion of the North. The day after the battle of Gettysburg, Union forces defeated Confederate forces at Vicksburg, Mississippi.
