8. A 0.500 kg model rocket is initially pushed upwards by a thrust force of 15N. If the force of air resistance is 1.00 N, what is the initial acceleration of the rocket?

Resultant force = ma

15N - 1N = 0.5kg(a)
a = 14/0.5
a = 28 m/s2

Answer:

a = 18.19
m/s^(2)

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

Mass of the rocket m = 0.500 kg

upward force
F_(up) = 15 N

Air Resistance
F_(Res) = 1.00 N

Solution

Net force = Upward forces - downward forces

Net force = Upward force - (air resistance + weight)

F_(net) = x_(up) -(F_(Res) +mg )\\\\F_(net) = 15 -( 1 + 0.5 * 9.81)\\\\F_(net) = 15 - (1+ 4.905)\\\\F_(net) = 9.095

Net acceleration

a = (F_(net) )/(m) \\\\a = (9.095 )/(0.5)\\\\a = 18.19 m/s^(2)
