Charges=$12 for each bag, then

charges=12*x

Now, the total is

total=charges + shipping

total=12x +3

now, we have a function ( the total (y) depends on the number of bags)


y=12x+3

where

y is the total charge, and x is the numbers of bags

assume values for x, replace and find y

x=-3

then y=12(-3)+3, y=-36+3, y=-33

so, when x=-3, y=-33
