∵ There are 142 who prefer carrots

∵ There are 250 all

∴ The fraction represents who prefer carrots is

(142)/(250)

We must simplify the fraction by divide up and down by the same number until getting the simplest form

∵ 142 and 250 can divide by 2

\therefore((142)/(2))/((250)/(2))=(71)/(125)

∵ 71 and 125 can not divide by any number

∴ The fraction is 71/125

∵ There are 97 who prefer peas

∵ There 250 all

∴ The fraction represents who prefer peas is

(97)/(250)

∵ 97 and 250 can not divide by the same number

∴ The fraction is 97/250

The ratio is 97: 250
