Hey There,

Your answer to this question should be that it ruled that school prayer violated the first amendment

Engel v. Vitale(1962) was a case in which the Court “ruled unconstitutional for state officials to compose an official school prayer and encourage its recitation in public school”.

The Warren Court addressed the separation of Church and State by ruling unconstitutional the act of saying a prayer in public school, sponsored by schools officials. Court prohibited to recite a prayer in school premises. The majority of the judges decided that school-sponsored prayers were a violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. The Court banned any type of prayer or religious readings in public schools, but The Supreme Court authorized private prayer.
