  • EG = 12, EF = 2x - 3 and FG = x + 6.

Here the whole line segment measures 12.

  • Therefore, EG = 12
  • or, EF + FG = 12 [Since, EF + FG = EG]
  • or, 2x - 3 + x + 6 = 12

Now, transpose -3 and 6 to the RHS

  • or, 2x + x = 12 - 6 + 3

Now, do the addition and subtraction

  • or, 3x = 9

Now, divide both sides by 3.

  • or, 3x/3 = 9/3
  • or, x = 3

Now, put the value of x in the values of EF and FG given.

  • Therefore, EF = (2x - 3) = 2 × 3 - 3 = 6 - 3 = 3
  • FG = x + 6 = 3 + 6 = 9

Answers:

EF is 3 and FG is 9.

Hope you could understand.
