Friar Laurence is a Franciscan friar, a man of good intentions, a very optimistic man.who helps both Romeo and Juliet all throughout the story. The decisions he made showed the outcome of the play and had he made different decisions, the play would not end at the way it supposed to. He risks his life as a friar by saying to Juliet that she consume a potion to avert marrying Paris so that she can be with Romeo.

Friar Laurence’s character in “Romeo and Juliet” is equivalent to that of Friar Francis' character in “Much Ado About Nothing.” these men lived in poverty like monks but worked and lived in the secular world. In both the plays the Friars act so as to sort out the problems of the family and unite them. Though they try to opt for a happy ending but through the process of deception. They use the weapon of deception in order to correct the wrongdoing in the plays. It has been noted that they engage themselves with the young people.
