Subtract the right side (1) so the comparison is to zero. Then you can look at the signs of the factor(s) to see where the inequality is satisfied.

(x+4)/(x-2) < 1

((x+4) -(x-2))/(x-2) < 0

(6)/(x-2) < 0
This will be true for x < 2.
