Linear pair means they have a sum of 180
5x + 7 + 2x + 54 = 180
7x + 61 = 180
7x = 119
x = 17
5(17) + 7 = 85 + 7 = 92
2(17) + 54 = 34 + 54 = 88
ANSWER: smaller angle is 88°
