In 1271 Kublai Khan called his government Yuan which implies "origin of the universe." The Yuan dynasty in China served from 1279 to 1368. Kublai Khan accompanied a tentative policy of Sinicization, that is, he readjusted to the Chinese system of ruling and when you look at his picture, he seems very extremely like other Chinese emperors. On the other hand, although he practiced any Chinese in low professions in the administration, he destroyed the civil service exams, favored to practice Chinese in his government and organized separate jurisdictions for the Mongols and for the Chinese. His center, present-day Beijing, grew an international and prosperous city.

The Mongols, led by Kublai Khan, adopted the Chinese imperialist system. This led to the establishment of the Yuan Dynasty. The Mongol ruled China until 1368, after which they retreated to their Mongolian homeland. Although China has seen major shifts in political power over the centuries, its ancient civilisation has remained largely intact.
