The main purpose of the following passage from Frankenstein is to entertain. What is its specific purpose?

I started from my sleep with horror. A cold dew covered my forehead, my teeth chattered, and every limb shivered with cold. By the dim light of the moon, I saw the miserable monster whom I had created.

to make the reader laugh

The scare the reader. That's the only one that makes sense.I've read the book, nothing is funny of intended to make the reader laugh and it's not inspiring.
