Louisa paid $12.25 for books at a yard sale.She spent $2.50 on a hardcover book,and the rest 13 softcover books. Each of the softcover books cost the same. What was the cost of a single softcover book?

well that's easy. all you have to do is minus $2.50 from $12.25 which you would get $9.75. then divide that by 13 and you will get .75 so 1 book cost 75 cents

12.25=2.5+13x

12.25-2.5=9.75

9.75/13=.75

Louisa paid 75¢ for every soft cover book.
