well that's easy. all you have to do is minus $2.50 from $12.25 which you would get $9.75. then divide that by 13 and you will get .75 so 1 book cost 75 cents

12.25=2.5+13x
12.25-2.5=9.75
9.75/13=.75
Louisa paid 75¢ for every soft cover book.
