It changed for the better. The United States signed neutrality acts to stay out of wars in Europe. When FDR got reelected, they signed the land-lease act that meant that they would provide the logistics such as weaponry or equipment to allies in the war without participating in the war themselves. They eventually joined the war which resulted in the liberation of Western Europe and the Pacific.
