To find x % of y we multiply y by x/100

The original record of swimming was of 48 s.

Shreya clocked 25% faster than the previous record

So the new record is 25% faster than the previous record.

Now 25% of 48

= 0.25 × 48

= 12 s

This means the new record must have been clocked 12 s less than the old record.

So the new record shall be

=48-12

= 36 s

The new school record that Shreya set is of 36 seconds
