As temperature increases, the movement of particles of matter increases. In solid matter, particles may be too close together to move from one place to another, but they still gather kinetic energy. Furthermore, while matter may seem solid, the particles in a heating piece of matter are vibrating in their position. As the temperature increases, so too does their vibrating and energy. In liquids, particles can move freely, bouncing off of each other as the temperature increases. In gaseous forms, particles in an environment of increasing temperature bounce off each other rapidly and without restraint, creating more kinetic energy.
