A. No, because some of the y-values are paired with two x-values.

B. Yes because each x-value has exactly one corresponding y-value.

C. Yes, Because it touches the y-axis exactly one time.

D. No, Because there are no closed circles to show where the graph ends

There's a trick you can do to figure out if it's a function or not:
You just draw a line straight up and down; if the line passes the graph twice, it is not a function.

I'm not too sure what the answer is because I haven't done functions since I was a sophomore, but I think it is C.

Sorry if that's wrong, lol.

Yes, the graph represents a function, as it touches the y-axis exactly one time. So, option (c) is the correct choice.

  • A function is a relation between a set of inputs (the domain) and a set of possible outputs (the range) such that each input is associated with exactly one output.
  • To determine whether a graph represents a function, we can use the vertical line test. If any vertical line intersects the graph more than once, then the graph does not represent a function.
  • In the given graph, we can draw a vertical line anywhere and it will intersect the graph at most once. Therefore, the graph represents a function.
  • Another way to think about it is that a function is a one-to-one mapping between the domain and the range. This means that each input value should have only one output value. In the given graph, each input value (x-value) has only one output value (y-value). Therefore, the graph represents a function.
