a standard elevator in a midrise building can hold a maximum weight of about 1.5 tons assuming an average adult weight of 160pounds wht is the maximum number of adults who could safely ride the elevator ?

1.5 tons equals 3,000 pounds so just take 3,000 and divide it by 160 which equals 18 adults with average weight. Note that 3,000/160 = 18.75. So 18 average weight adults or 18 average weight adults and some other guy that weighs 120 pounds.
