The GDP of Germany in 2008 was roughly 26.5 billion. How do you write this in scientific notation?

there are 9 zeros in 1 billion

you need to move the decimal point between the 2 and 6 which is 1 place, then add the 9 zeros so 9+1 = 10

so you get:

2.65 X 10^10
