One could argue that the world is as "how it appears to be" because that is how that person perceives it. Personal perception is uniquely individualized, and while it can be explained to another person, there is no guarantee that it will make complete sense. Really "knowing anything" then relies on personal belief/faith in that perceived world-view, which can range from unflappable to highly-mutable.
