An edict is an official order or proclamation issued by a person in authority, while a tale is a ficticious or true narrative of a story. This means that both and edict and a tale could be true. However, a tale also might be a fictional narrative, which would make it different than an edict. Also, an edict is issued by a person in an authoritative position while anyone could tell a tale.
