X^2. +3x -10=0

Using the quadratic formula for
ax^2. +bx. +c=0

X= {-b+_ sqrt [(b^2)-4ac]} /2a

X=(-3+7)/2 =4/2=2
X=(-3-7)/2= -10/2= -5

Solutions are x=2 and x= -5

To complete the square, add the square of half the x-coefficient.
.. x^2 +3x +2.25 = 12.25
.. (x +1.5)^2 = 3.5^2
.. x +1.5 = ±3.5
.. x = -1.5 ±3.5
.. x = -5 or 2

You can also solve this by factoring.
.. x^2 +3x -10 = 0
.. (x -2)*(x +5) = 0
.. x = 2 or -5
