Also known as the catholic revival. Period of catholic resurgence initiated in response to the protestant reformation. Reform of the catholic church started before the spread of Luther. catholics wanted change and luther was willing to recognize the faults of the papacy. Book came out called summa theological which was believed man knew right from wrong but people needed guidance from the church therefore This was called Thomism which was the head belief of the catholic reformation.

When the Protestant reformation happened they converted a lot of catholics with them . When Luther was around they formed a book where they believed that humans knew the difference between right and wrong so when St. Ignatius came around he formed a group called Jesuits and they went on missions where they converted millions of protestants back to Catholicism . They were all lost in the Protestant reform so it was kind of a game of whose better or who could win the people back. In conclusion The catholics were spreading the word and preaching how jesus was great and this is in conclusion why they reformed in correspondence with the protestant movements.
