A nerve signal is a type intracellular communication involving an electrical charge moving along the cell membrane like a wave.

Direct connections between the cells in plants are called plasmodesmata. They function similarly to the gap junctions in animal cells. Plasmodesmata allow molecules to pass directly from the cytoplasm of one cell to the cytoplasm of an adjacent cell.

Comparing them both: They are both cell's which contain cellular walls that are either more tense but they each contain this and they protect each other, and also enabling transport and communication between them.

Contrasting them both: Each of these wall's have different thing's to fight. They also have different tensity which would mean there could only be so much cellular cell's in each ring.
