When renting a car, the cost per mile is inversely proportional to the number of miles driven. At Zippy Car Rentals, if the standard model car is driven for 300 miles, then the cost per mile is $0.25.

At Zippy Car Rentals, the constant of variation is ____
for a standard car rental. If that rental car is driven for 375 miles, then the cost per mile is $_______

Let x be the number of miles traveled.

Let y be the cost per mile for the trip.

As y inversly varies as x.

So

y=(k)/(x)

Here 'k' is the constant of proportionality.

Now y = 0.25 when x = 300

Substituting in the equation , we get

0.25=(k)/(300)

Multiplying by 300 on both sides we get

0.25 Ă—300 = k

k = 75

Now our equation becomes

y=(75)/(x)

Now for x = 375, we get

y=(75)/(375)

We get y = $0.20

At Zippy Car Rentals, the constant of variation is 75 for a standard car rental. If that rental car is driven for 375 miles, then the cost per mile is $0.20.
