( a^{ (1)/(2)} * b^{ (1)/(2)} )^{ (1)/(2)} = a^(1/2*1/2) *b^(1/2*1/2)=a^(1/4)*b^(1/4)

answer is D

when multiplying same variable exponents, ADD them
when dividing same variable exponents, SUBTRACT them
when raising a variable's exponent to another exponent, MULTIPLY the exponents
