we can write x = 2y-5 as 2y-x=5 and 2x + y = 20 as y + 2x=20

2y-x=5

y+2x=20

we multiply 2y-x=5 by 2(elimination method)

4y-2x=10

(4y+y) + (2x-2x) = 20+10

5y + 0 = 30

5y = 30

y = 6

y+2x=20

6 + 2x = 20

2x= 20-6

2x =14

x= 7
