Let the number is x

Now going with the statement of the question

20% of 40% of x is 10 greater than half of x

So

(20)/(100) ((40)/(100) (x)) = (x)/(2)+10

(800)/(10000) *x = (x)/(2) +10

(8)/(100) x = (x)/(2) +10

Subtract
(x)/(2) from both sides

(8)/(100) x - (x)/(2) =10

(8x)/(100) - (50x)/(100) =10

(-42x)/(100)=10

Multiply 100 on both sides

-42x = 1000

Divide both sides by -42

x=
(-500)/(21)
