The age of fossils is determined by a method called dating.
There are mainly two methods of determining age of fossils- absolute dating and relative dating.
Absolute dating determines the exact age of fossil by using the radiometric dating that measures the isotope decay either within the fossils or the rocks which are associated along with it.
Relative dating determines the approximate age of the fossils by comparison with similar rocks or fossils having similar age.
