Let the total number of children in the class be = x

from the question, we know that 20% of all the children are left-handed. We also know that 20% of the total children in the class = 4.

This means that 20% of x = 4

Wherever we see the word "of" in an arithmetic problem, we should know that it infers a multiplication there.

Hence, we have


(20)/(100) * x = 4


x = (4 * 100)/(20)= 20

There are 20 children in the class altogether
